Courses
C100 — Word Processing
Take an in-depth look at the creation of text documents using Microsoft Word 2010. You will learn to create professional-looking letters, memos, reports, and other standardized forms, to integrate mailing lists, graphs, charts and other text-based documents. This course emphasizes the use of powerful software tools such as spelling and grammar checker, thesaurus, auto-correction, language translation, indexing and tables.
C110 — Electronic Spreadsheets
Learn how to effectively create and use electronic spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel 2010. This is a powerful program designed to help manage lots of complex information like customer lists, purchase or shipping data, financial information, and market research data. Hands-on exercises give you the opportunity to develop your skills in a wide variety of real-world business situations, including creating lists, programming numeric calculations, creating budgets and graphs, and running basic statistical analyses.
C120 — Internet Research and Microsoft Outlook
Anything you need to know is on the internet . . . but this amazing tool is only as powerful as your ability to use it. Hone your research skills; learn the shortcuts and strategies to find exactly what you are looking for the first time you search. When you understand how to harness the power of the internet, the world’s information is at your fingertips.
In the same class, you will develop your communication skills with email, contact management, calendar and scheduling functions in Microsoft Outlook 2010, a powerful e-mail and contact management program that many businesses use to organize and share information. You will manage electronic messages, appointments, contacts, and tasks, track activities, attach files and create detailed business projects in hands-on exercises designed to mirror the demands of the real-world of business.
C130 — Microsoft PowerPoint
In any industry, for any situation, when a presentation is required there is one program that everyone uses: Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. This amazing program allows you to quickly and easily present information to an individual or a group in a variety of business or educational situations including seminars, workshops, conferences, classrooms, and meetings. This class covers creating text, tables, diagrams, charts, graphics, animation, multimedia effects, and preparing these graphic presentations for live delivery or electronic distribution. Not only will you learn to create presentations, but you will have the opportunity to practice the narration and delivery of a range of informational and inspirational presentations. This will also help you hone your verbal communication skills, one that is absolutely vital for your professional success!
C140 Microsoft Publisher
Have you ever thought about creating an album cover or a movie poster? Have you ever seen a billboard or magazine advertisement that made you stop and look again? This course gives you the chance to learn some of the skills used to create those kinds of dynamic, visual marketing and communication materials.
Learn desktop printing, commercial printing, graphic design for e-mail distribution and web publication, and other ways to mix text and graphics using Microsoft Publisher 2010. You will design, create, and edit quality publications suitable for professional purposes including newsletters, brochures, e-mail correspondence, company letterheads, envelopes, business cards, invoices, coupons, calendars, labels, and order forms. You will also get the chance to generate customized publications with information sets, standard business forms, and tables. By the time you are done, you will have practical knowledge of desktop publishing concepts and a portfolio of cool projects you’ve used to hone your creative talents!
C150 Database Management
A database is basically a huge electronic filing system, a way to keep a lot of information organized including documents, reports, names, dates, contact information, financial records, order histories, etc. Managing data is a core part of business administration. In this class, you will gain an understanding of database management using Microsoft Access 2010. Customize reports to better organize information, sort data, produce specific print layouts such as mailing labels, create flexible queries to display specified records, allow for user-determined query criteria, add, update, and delete data with queries – you will know how to do it all!
C160 Computerized Accounting
Accounting means one thing, keeping track of the money. Obviously, this is an extremely important skill to have – companies love when their employees are trained in accounting because at the center of every business is: money. In this class you will increase your understanding of accounting principles and develop in your mastery of the real world application of those principles using the industry standard for small and mid-sized business accounting: QuickBooks 2010. In a course-long project, you will receive practical, hands-on experience in bookkeeping and financial statements as you set up your own imaginary company and learn how to operate its finances, entering data, preparing computerized forms and reports, and tracking both income and expenses. By the time you get into your new career, you will understand exactly how money works in the real world of business.
C800 Placement Workshop
At the end of the program is this two-week, final module. In the Placement Workshop, you will work in close partnership with our Career Services team to learn the strategies and tactics that make up a sophisticated, systematic job search. They will help you identify the best job opportunities for you, taking into account your personal background, work history, skills, and preferences, and then tailor your approach to each opportunity to maximize your chances of success. They will help you prepare a powerful, dynamic resume customized to each opportunity and guide you through practice in proven techniques for an outstanding job interview. Before you meet with a prospective employer, you will know who you are meeting, what the job entails, and how to sell yourself in a way that will make you the obvious choice for the job. The goal is to have you hired into your new career by the end of this workshop!
